„As emulation, appropriation, pastiche – you name it – have been exposed, lost their pompous aura and became tools, means of redistributing cultural artifacts, I become more and more concerned in turning my balldress into a well-worn coat. Is anybody else doing the same out there? It doesn’t really matter, as I can prove quite genuine desires: I will arrest, abuse, and pervert their hip.
Now, let’s dance on mtv-hits-modern-manele mashups and pretend we are all moving fashion-forward. With obsolete grace.”
Born in 1984 in Brașov, Romania, Răzvan Botiș lives and works in Cluj-Napoca. He graduated from the University of Art and Design in Cluj (MA in Ceramics) in 2009. Previous exhibitions include „Hotspot Cluj – New Romanian Art”, Arken Museum, Denmark; „November Remember September”, Künstlerhaus Schloß Balmoral, Germany; „European Travelers, Art from Cluj Today”, Mucsarnok Kunsthalle Budapest, Hungary; „Trying to purchase what I once wanted to forget”, Krinzinger Projekte, Vienna, Austria.
